Web-Site
Migration: Over the weekend of October 20-21, 2001,
I moved my web site to a new host. The reason I moved was that my old web-site
host changed both its policies and its access procedures. The policy change
involved the introduction of third-party advertisements on free web pages
they hosted, and the new access procedures made it almost impossible to
access their system from Macintosh computers. The first change, the ads,
made using their system distasteful, and the second, in my case, made it
impossible to continue using my former free host.
So I bit the proverbial bullet and shelled out cash (actually, plastic): I bought my own web domain and enlisted with a commercial (pay for storage) web host. The migration was surprisingly easy, albeit time consuming -- about 36 hours at the desktop over two days. The new web site seems to be working well and connection time seems to be shorter. I had to change thousands of links within my web site, which is now running more than 500 pages, and I'm certain to have made some errors. If you spot any, let me know and I'll try to fix them.
